Variety reports that James Cromwell and Ellen Burstyn have signed on to portray George Herbert Walker Bush and Barbara Bush in Oliver Stone’s upcoming film, W, a drama concerning the formative years of current president George W. Bush.
Cromwell and Burstyn join Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), who portrays the eponymous protagonist, and Elizabeth Banks (The 40 Year Old Virgin), who plays the first lady Laura Bush.
The screenplay was written by Stanley Weiser, who also wrote Rudy: The Rudy Giuliani Story and co-wrote 1987’s Wall Street with Stone. Moritz Borman, Bill Block, and Jon Kilik are producing the film for QED International. Shooting will begin at the end of April in Shreveport, LA—in time for the film to be released before Bush’s term ends in January.
