According to pitchforkmedia.com, English band The Verve will release Forth, its first album in 11 years and the follow-up to 1997’s highly lauded Urban Hymns, which elevated the band to international fame before it broke up in 1999 at the height of its popularity. The band’s ubiquitous hit “Bittersweet Symphony” from Urban Hymns peaked at No. 12 on The Billboard Hot 100 in 1998 and No. 4 on The Modern Rock charts the same year, according to billboard.com.
According to a separate report from pitchforkmedia.com, the band’s original lineup—frontman Richard Ashcroft, guitarist Nick McCabe, bassist Simon Jones, and drummer Peter Salisbury—made amends for the conflicts that lead to the group’s demise and reunited for a fall UK tour in 2007.
Forth will be released August 19 in North America via the band’s own label, On Your Own. The band is building anticipation for the release by playing a slue of festival dates in Europe and Asia.
