The Associated Press reports that singer Teresa Brewer, who topped the charts in the 1950s with hits like “Till I Waltz Again with You,” died in October at her home in New Rochelle, NY. She was 76.

Brewer had close to 40 chart-topping hits and even a burgeoning film career but sacrificed mass notoriety for her family—at one point she even declined a seven-year contract with Paramount. Her first hit single, 1952’s “Gonna Get Along Without Ya Now,” coincided with the birth of her first of four children. Treating her career more like a hobby, Brewer continued to be fairly active throughout the decade and even enjoyed a bit of a comeback in the 1970s by recording jazz standards. The rest is, as they say, history.
