Bayreuth Opera Festival to Debut Online
Thu Jul 3, 7:52 PM GMT
According to an Associated Press report, Germany’s annual Bayreuth opera festival, which is devoted entirely to Richard Wagner’s 10 mature stage works, will for the first time provide an Internet stream of its opening performance of “Die Meistersinger von Nuernberg.” The performance, the report elaborates, stars Klaus Florian Vogt, Franz Hawlata, and Michaela Kaune with Sebastian Weigle conducting.
The report adds that the cost of entry is no mere paltry sum at $77. However, given that the waiting list to buy tickets to the actual event is around seven years, the price does not seem so astronomical. Tickets to the event cost between $79 and $315.
The premier is at 4 p.m. on July 27 and will remain downloadable online until Aug. 2.
The report says that Berlin-based production company, United Motion, will capture the five-hour opera using eight remote-control cameras. United Motion plans to release an edited DVD version of the concert in November.
In addition, notes the report, United Motion will produce behind-the-scenes footage from each day of the festival that will be available as a free download via iTunes through the festival’s Web site, http://live.bayreuther-festspiele.de/index.html.
