Mogwai Howls Again

According to billboard.com, Scottish rock band Mogwai is set to release its new album The Hawk Is Howling on Sept. 2 via Matador.

The report continues by saying that the group began working on the album in sessions last summer but grew unhappy with the results, scrapping all of the material save for one song. The report adds that the 10 tracks that appear on The Hawk is Howling are exclusively instrumental.

In an interview with Brent DiCrescenzo for Time Out Chicago, a Chicago entertainment publication, Cocker reveals that he has “written three, four songs, and some of that might become bits of the score.”

According to jazztimes.com, alto saxophonist Kenny Garrett will release his 15th album, and first for Mack Avenue Records, on Sept. 23.

The report continues by saying that the album, titled Sketches of MD, is inspired by the work of the various artists who worked as sidemen for Miles Davis. The album was recorded live at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City with Garrett’s ensemble featuring pianist Benito Gonzales, bassist Nat Reeves, drummer Jamire Williams, and special guest tenor saxophonist Pharoah Sanders.
