According to LiveDaily.com, Rakim, Ghostface Killah, and Brother Ali will be embarking on the first Hip Hop Live Tour with stops nationwide.

The Rhythm Roots Allstars, a 10-piece band out of Los Angeles, will back each rapper’s individual set. “Hip-Hop's roots are nourished by live music," Rakim said in a press release. "For artists who dug through crates searching for the perfect sample, always trying to replicate the sounds of a full band, standing on a stage, moving the crowd in front of this talent is both the nexus and the pinnacle of what we do."… More…

2007 Country Music Hall of Fame Inductees

As reported in the Associated Press, singer/songwriter Vince Gill, singer and humorist Mel Tillis, and radio and television personality Ralph Emery have been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Artists are selected by a panel of more than 300 voters who were themselves appointed by the Country Music Association’s board of directors.

Porter Wagoner Passes Away at 80

According to a report by the Associated Press, Grand Ole Opry star Porter Wagoner died Sunday after a bout with lung cancer. He was 80 years old.

Wagoner’s career began in 1955 when he signed with RCA Records. Two years later, he joined the Grand Ole Opry.  In 1961, Wagoner became the host of his own television program, one of Nashville’s first syndicated shows—a gig that would last 21 years.

According to an Associated Press report, Johnny Marr, guitarist and co-founder of 1980’s rock sensation, The Smiths, and current member of Modest Mouse, has been named visiting professor of music at the University of Salford in Manchester, England.

AP quotes Marr as saying, “Salford University is offering some fantastic opportunities to students in music. It is an honour to be appointed as a Professor and I'm excited at the prospect of being able to make a contribution.”

Rhapsody Joins TiVo to Reach Larger Audience

In a widely reported story via Reuters, Billboard, and Yahoo News, Rhapsody, the giant membership-based digital music subscription service, will now be accessible through TiVo digital video recorders, as part of the trend to bring Internet-based music away from the computer and into the living room.

Rhapsody, a joint venture between RealNetworks and MTV Networks, will cost TiVo subscribers $12.99 a month in addition to the $12.95 they regularly pay for the TiVo subscription.

It’s been a pretty exciting summer for those who would like to see the demise of digital rights management (DRM) copy protection. The super retail giant chain Wal-Mart announced it will sell unprotected songs at $.94 a pop and allow customers to choose between MP3 and Microsoft Media files. Rhapsody soon jumped on board to undergo a six months test in making a large part of Universal’s catalog available in MP3 format for $.89 a track for subscribers ($.99 for non-subscribers). And Apple joined with EMI to offer much of the EMI catalog DRM-free through iTunes.
